Juxtaposition of opposing zones

This project is exploring sensitive relationship between opposing activity zones and this case between industrial and residential. Proximity of the site to the industrial zone and various warehouses and factories influenced design of this alteration and addition to existing Victorian house that is heritage listed. Design intent was to interlock those two different design forms and create fusion that would stitch in to urban fabric of this mixed residential/industrial area in inner Melbourne suburb by adding double storey addition at the back of the existing house. We used shipping container as the representation of the typical industrial form and transformed it into residential addition.
